If there’s anything I love, it’s a good dessert to end my meal and a good digestif to end the day 🙂 This lemony cake was first baked 3 years ago for a New Year party in Goa. It’s tangy, minty, lemony, creamy and has just the right caremalised kick from the lemon wheels that are cooked in sugar till they are crisp and brown, and sweet and sour to taste! It’s literally an explosion in your mouth. What’s more eating your cocktail is the new trend! Get ready to bake this over the weekend
This is one of my favourite go-to-dessert when I need something sweet that doesn’t need too much effort. I’ve made many a bread pudding, but never bothered to steer away from the traditional recipe. This time was different having just cleaned up my pantry I had managed to find some 10 bags of miniscule amounts of berries, nuts, chocolate compound and even custard powder! I had two options, save all the bits and pieces for later or bring out the eggs, bread and milk and bake up a delight for the tired soul. It’s 11pm…but never to late for baking.
So I’ve been bitten by the bug that takes everything sweet and adds a twist to it…blame it on my newly discovered lactose intolerance and acid reflux that makes consuming all those goodies with chocolate into a nightmare for the next five hours. And it doesn’t end there, the deal gets worse, I need to eat every few hours to keep my system safe from damaging itself! Thankfully fruits are my best friends and oats I love…so this recipe was actually designed to give all those 2-hour food habits I must inculcate something tasty to ruminate over!
This sandwich is inspired completed by Facebook and I wouldn’t be wrong if I said this, but even John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich would want to be born again to eat this one! If you remember since September last year, videos have started to come alive on our Facebook newsfeeds. Some of us hated it, others watched it without sound, and some actually lapped up every byte that flowed onto their screens. I was somewhere in between. I initially hated it, then started watching it and saving some too and last night used one of the videos my husband was watching for the first time ever to conceive something similar. And am I pleased!
Warning: This sandwich cannot be eaten without getting crumbs and sauces all over your face and beard if you sport one! And it’s definitely not for a sit-down dinner. It’s one of those messy meals that ends up with a tummy that’s ready to burst at the seams. 🙂But you will love it. This is also the longest post I’ve ever written.
2016 has brought with it a whole lot of guests and entertainment. I’ve literally thrown a party every other day of the year so far! But it’s been a fun fortnight with my refrigerator always full of desserts and pastries and quick bites and materials to put together a quick snack.
Yes, it is a good idea to keep some pastry dough handy at all times. Now I come from a family that doesn’t use a microwave so yes it does get difficult to defrost the dough before it can be rolled into these french delicacies, but it’s all part of the game. But if you aren’t as crazy as I am, you can buy these and regular ready to use tart bases at any grocery store, In Mumbai ‘Camy’ or ‘Nature’s Basket’ is a good place to shop for them.
I’ve always loved the Nachos that are served at Hard Rock Cafe. It’s a meal in itself with close to 7 to 8 different toppings. This recipe comes very close to it and is perfect entree for a party of 10 to 12 hungry friends, where snacks and spirits take precedence over the main course.
I’ve experimented a whole lot with the textures of the corn chips and the cheese to be used. Nothing comes close to pepper jack cheese but when you can’t get your hand on it try Gruyère cheese or even cheddar and if even those are impossible then go with just mozzarella. Nothing better than the stringy texture.
It’s been a crazy week.. came down with the flu and all my planned uploads went for a toss! Lesson to learn never plan 🙂 Just do it…So today was a marathon session in the kitchen. It is after all Christmas Eve and there’s so much to do…It started with baking these super delicious buttery cheese, rosemary and buttermilk scones. Would go perfect with the bacon and cranberry jam I planned to make later in the evening.
When I read this recipe thanks to Pinterest, I wasn’t quite sure how it would turn out. It had crackers, caramel, chocolate and almonds! Sounded delicious enough to try out, what i however didn’t expect is the completely blow-your-mind-out crunch, texture, taste and flavour. The salt from the biscuit base enhanced the flavours of the chocolate and the caramel added that perfect crunch! Truly an amazing find. Also make loads of these, they get wiped out faster than it takes to put them together.
I was putting together a Christmas basket for a friend’s dad, when I realised i have nothing chocolaty in it! It had your Gingerbread Men, Rocky Roads, Beer Flavoured Caremalised Onion Jam, Sweet Bacon Bites and a bottle of Fresh Herb Mix for the roasted chicken, but nothing with my favourite ingredient.
The last time I made these crunchy chocolate biscuits, I bought ready-made biscuits, but this time I had a ready stock of my star shaped short crust cookies.
No sooner does the month of December roll in, than the mood starts to get all festive. The clothes gets warmer and brighter, the kitchen has a brand new aroma wafting through it, rolls of cinnamon and orange peel take up kitchen space, the consumption of butter goes higher and the waistline forgets the 20s….The greens, reds, silvers and whites adorn the dining table and the cookie boxes never look dull, boring or healthy 🙂 My life revolves around my love for cooking. And as I love to bake and grill, there’s no better time than Christmas to pop the best bakes out of my oven.
